Extended Opportunity Program and Services

EOPS is a state-funded program designed to recruit and retain students who are economically and educationally disadvantaged. EOPS assists students in the development of their potential ability through academic support and financial assistance. The services of EOPS are designed to give students individualized attention and support to improve their chances for success.

EOPS/CARE Mission Statement

It is the mission of EOPS to provide educationally and economically disadvantaged students with above-and-beyond services that help them advance toward, and ultimately reach, their educational goals.  To this end, our friendly, knowledgeable, and supportive staff with help inspire, guide, and problem solve with our students as they pursue their goals at Butte College.

EOPS/CARE Goals and objectives

1. ROLE MODELS: To have a diverse staff of dedicated, well-qualified, culturally aware individuals with the ability to accommodate, inspire, and motivate students.

2. QUALITY: To provide the best quality of services that our resources will allow.

3. COUNSELING: To (1) provide each student with meaningful academic, personal, and career counseling, including recommended remediation, as needed; and (2) develop an educational plan for each student that is appropriate and realistic, based upon institutional assessment results.

4. EVALUATION: To evaluate the effects of program activities on student performance and progress towards their stated goals.

5. RESOURCE AWARENESS: To ensure that all students (1) are aware of campus and community resources/services; and (2) receive information and referrals to relevant programs and services both on- and off-campus.

6. REPRESENTATION: To have representation on campus committees, especially hiring committees and those that recommend policy and procedure.

7. ADVOCACY: To advocate for students handicapped by language, social and economic disadvantages.

8. STUDENT DEVELOPMENT: To foster students’ increased self-confidence as we help them develop skills to become responsible members and leaders of a diverse society.

9. PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT: To assist the District to improve the delivery of current programs and services to disadvantaged students while developing new programs and services, as needed.

10. TEAM ENVIRONMENT: To maintain a cooperative working environment which will facilitate personal and professional development, and which allows each staff member: (1) to be accepted for his or her own individuality of ideas; (2) the opportunity to work as a member of a team; (3) acceptance as an equal partner in our attempts to realize program goals; and (4) the opportunity to offer input relative to program direction and focus.

Summer Hours: Monday through Thursday 7am-5pm
Chico Center: Monday through Thursday 9am-3pm
