Business Education and Information Systems (BCIS)

The BCIS Department prepares students with the knowledge and skills necessary to enter into a variety of office environments as administrative professionals and pursue career pathways and future educational goals through the completion of certificates and degrees. Students who are interested in building careers in today's dynamic offices can select from the following four programs.  
Graduation 2013

Computer Applications
Legal Office Administration
Medical Office Administration
Office Administration

BCIS Certificates/Degrees

BCIS Certificates: BCIS Certificates are awarded by the BCIS Department once students have successfully completed the 12-16 required units depending on the BCIS program selected. 

Students applying for a BCIS Certificate should contact Jill Hedman, Administrative Secretary III, at 530-895-2371 or

BCIS Certificates of Achievement: BCIS Certificates of Achievement are awarded by Butte College once students have successfully completed the 24-32 units required depending on the BCIS program selected.

Students applying for a BCIS Certificate of Achievement should complete an application online at Certificates of Achievement

BCIS Associate of Science Degrees: BCIS Associate of Science degrees are awarded by Butte College once students have successfully completed 38-40 units required depending on the BCIS program selected in addition to 20 units of General Education.

Students applying for a BCIS Associates Degree should contact counseling.

Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Exams

Butte College is an Official Testing Site for the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) exam. Successfully completing a BCIS course in Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint or Outlook or having workplace-related skills prepares you to take one or more MOS exams.

Your certification tells an employer you have demonstrated proficiency in the newest standard of the world's foremost desktop computing applications.

Microsoft certifications are based on globally recognized standards and by demonstrating your computing skills, you can help advance your career prospects in a competitive and ever-changing job market.  Visit the official Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) website for exam information, requirements, and special offers.
